stitching her apart
In Stitching her apart I weave notions of fragmentation from a artista mestiza nepantlista perspective: the artist, a rumor whisperer; mestiza, the embodiment of hybridity and impossibility of wholeness; nepantlista, the refusal to fit into molds. From the unsettled grounds of nepantla I explore the concepts that emerge from a practice of textile crafts that is intercorporeal, mindless and monster-like, a practice that reviews the parameters of the possible and destabilizes our collective understanding of what is or can be real. The path followed in Stitching her apart is spirallitic and follows no fixed hierarchy. As knitting patterns do, the text invites to consider finding a path towards deviation and to bring a fragment of your own imagination to it.
