123 Project
Why is it called "123 Project"?
Daily image making from 01/05/17 to 01/09/17. The period of time between these dates amounts to exactly 123 days.
Why this period of time?
I had commited to volunteering and living in the Scottish Highlands for that long.
Why the change of direction?
I had been in Edinburgh for 5 years and felt a bit stagnant. I think living in what is a centrepoint for tourism saw me meet lots of people from all over. They often talked highly of remote Scottish escapades and this made me want to get to know my native country a little better.
What did you learn from the project?
I established some healthier habits and thought patterns within my creative practice. Before this I had this idea that I might get a lucky break so was holding my work back for a grander platform.
I then realised that banal digital imagery is abundant and maybe
it is the duty of visual artists to contribute unusual ingredients
to the communal broth.
I suppose now, I more readily embrace my whimsical output. Using these dusty old eyeballs
as the last round of judgement, instead of being entangled
in thought.
Good poets sensitively convey moments which are often overlooked; I aspire to do the same. The change in this rural setting, however, was the
constant sense of wonderment; nature being both abundant and convenient. The images I made here are perhaps less exploratory for this reason.
What are you planning to do with the work?
I am looking to have a physical exhibition of these images.
