File Formats & Sizes

When uploading images to Salon.io there are three limits which must be taken into consideration; File Format, File Size & Resolution.

tl;dr - Uploads must be Jpg, PNG or GIF. Max. Filesize 30MB Max. Res. 2500px or will be downsampled.

Note - Some older versions of Safari support a max. filesize of 5MB & will not downsample larger images.

File Format

There are three accepted file formats for your images on Salon.io; Jpg, PNG & GIF. You can tell the format of your image by looking at the extension on the end of the file. For example hello.jpg is a Jpeg. If you try to upload any file other than the three types below you'll be given an error message, to convert your images there are lots of free options such as http://pixlr.com/.

Jpegs - .jpg, .jpeg - Most typical file format for photographs & image in general.

PNGs - .png - Typically used for graphics / logos & can have transparent sections.

GIFs - .gif - Less colours available but can be animated & have transparent sections.

An example of a GIF - note the small colour palette (and animated cat!).

File Size

The maximum file size for a single image uploaded to Salon.io is 30MB.

Images larger than 30MB will be downsampled to below 30MB.

Resolution

The maximum resolution on any side of your image is 2500px.

Any image with a side larger than that will be downsampled to fit 2500px.
