Afrofusion Fest 2023

About us

Bakary Jatta, djembe master, founded a drum and jam session in 2021 as part of the Hofa Musik-Atelier. Every Friday, music-loving amateurs as well as professionals from Hamburg come here for drum lessons and also have the opportunity to participate in a big jam session. This subsequent multicultural jam session has grown in size and is now very popular with professional musicians as well as amateurs and people interested in exchanging ideas from various fields.

In extension of this wonderful atmosphere the idea of the 'Afrofusion Fest' was born,an African and Afro-diasporic festival day in the heart of Wilhelmsburg.

The aim of the Afrofusion Fest is to give a platform to the variety of african music, the lively dance as well as the diversity of african cuisine and to open it for the district. The content should be created mainly by people living in Wilhelmsburg to make the african cultures and afrodiasporic scene in Wilhelmsburg more visible. With the Afrofusion Fest we want to support the intercultural exchange of our community and furthermore offer a platform for the diverse cultural forms, which have been influenced by afro culture worldwide.Up to now there is scarcly no african cultural offer in Wilhelmsburg. This cultural fest should therefore also serve as a place for networking.

Afro culture south of the Elbe is unfortunately rather invisible and should be able to show and express itself with the help of the Afrofusion Fest.   As the name Fusion already says, the festival should also show the fusion to other cultures. At the same time it should serve for networking, exchange, further development of project ideas and thus also as empowerment. The festival is organized by our drum collective, people from the district and with possible volunteers.

We offer a festival day with content for every age and background.
Throughout the day there will be music acts, workshops, readings, children's program, affordable food/drinks, etc. We also want to attract people from the neighborhood who may not initially feel addressed by the festival title or cannot afford festival days. The Honigfabrik thus provides a great platform as an established cultural venue.

The Afrofusion Festival will take place on 08.07.2023 on the premises of the Honigfabrik and will be FREE OF CHARGE.
