Is my work Trash?
‘YT spaces’ self help book–a playful subvertisement of self help books and the trend of contemporary non-fiction books explaining racial theory.
‘Why do uncomfortable truths sit heavy on the tongue?’
I grind my teeth until they form an ivory paste, the thick pulp sits heavy on my tongue,
teefing my words
cheeks aching,
my toothless smile wilts,
now empty husks,
saliva waters my gums
as thorns silently begin to root in place.

BLANK CANVAS PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE PIECES–There's an intentional and selective use of predominantly black props within the space set against the white backdrop, the setup is clean and minimal with a scattering of few black props.
Serving as a visual metaphor for the immeasurable amount of institutional spaces that exist and expect a level of performance, ‘code switching’ and re-shaping/moulding of oneself in order to navigate these spaces with ease, the policing of self, censoring of tone and innate labour of silencing politicisations deflected daily from society, becomes a loudly unspoken norm within the workplace.
INTRO–This period of stillness, is bearing witness, and enveloping many tangential streams of thought. I offer these little vignettes of processes and works in progress, to narrate that journey, at this stage these are experimental tests I aim to continue exploring within my practice.
