Kubra Khademi

Armor, 2015

Verfolgt von einer Menge aufgebrachter Männer ging die Künstlerin Kubra Khademi 2015 für ihre Performance „Armor“ in einem selbstgeschmiedeten Brustpanzer eine Einkaufsstraße in Kabul, Afghanistan, entlang. Die Rüstung bildet einen Torso mit Brüsten und Hintern nach, sie schützt und bedeckt die beiden oftmals sexualisierten Körperstellen, während sie zugleich offensiv auf diese hinweist - ein Protest gegen gewaltsame s€xuelle Übergriffe auf Frauen. Kubra Khademi musste daraufhin das Land verlassen und lebt seitdem in Frankreich im Exil.

Chased by a crowd of angry men, the artist Kubra Khademi walked along a shopping street in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2015 for her performance ‘Armor’ wearing a breastplate she had forged herself. The armour replicates a torso with breasts and buttocks, protecting and covering the two often sexualised parts of the body, while at the same time drawing attention to them - a protest against violent s€xual assaults on women. As a result, Kubra Khademi had to leave the country and has been living in exile in France ever since.
