- A custom Salon.io instance (SalonEngine) installed on your art school or creative institution's infrastructure. This will give you your own creative platform, which allows students to submit or display work, collaborate, comment or critique each other & receive feedback from tutors - all using Salon.io's intuitive drag & drop interface. This means no more clunky menu based systems and a way to properly arrange work for review as though it were on a real wall. Users can also use the system to create private mood-boards which can then be shared with others as they desire. This will include a workshop in the use and operation of the system.

Salon.io is a web-based application made for photographers, artists and designers that
allows you to easily create beautiful websites, image galleries and portfolios without any
coding knowledge using an entirely drag & drop interface.

We are launching a kickstarter-esque campaign to finance
the development of a novel online publishing tool.
Help us to create the best tool
for publishing anything online.
Because of our backgrounds we've always had to make
our own portfolio websites or help our friends or students
with theirs. We wanted to provide tools that anyone could
use with instant visual feedback so that people who wanted
to make a beautiful portfolio didn't need to learn to code or badger their friends to help them out.
After a while we realised that there just wasn’t anything that could do what we wanted and so started work on a platform that could. The first feature we wanted was to allow for "salon style hanging" so images could be arranged as if hung on a wall or laid out across a table.
So Salon.io was born.

Salon.io works very differently to any other portfolio/site creation tools.
Everything you do on Salon.io is instant, want to upload an image? Just drag
it onto your page from the desktop and up it goes. Want to reposition that image? Just click and drag it to where you want it to be. Want to add some text? Double click where you want it and type!
The point is to remove the barriers involved in creating and managing your site, no overly-complicated menus, no need to install on your server, just immediate control and feedback and no need to 'save' or 'preview' anything!
Along side this absolute ease of use we provide unparalleled control for those that want it. Complete access for custom CSS, HTML and JS! Code editors run alongside your page and you can see instantly how your changes will affect your page as your enter type. Or open a text box and enter your HTML there to create a self-contained element which is easily repositioned. If coding isn't up your street there are also very powerful controls for changing the layout and appearance of your page with no code input required.

Having come a long way over the course of the last 15 months we have reached what we believe is version 0.9.
Now we need your help to make it perfect!
We're now introducing pricing plans to help finance further development of Salon.io and to help add features our users
are asking for. Using the funding from the campaign we intend to optimise the site, test and fix all bugs, finalise the features we already have and add a few new ones.
The majority of the money raised will be spent on the following to get us up to version 1.0:
- Even more controls for positioning and sizing your images.
- Including grid and smart snapping.
- Scaling and rotating images with handles (à la Photoshop).
- Multi-select, copy/paste, duplicate
- Easier integration of embeds (just type a youtube/soundcloud etc... link and it can automatically be embedded in your page).
- Upload of other filetypes (e.g. PDF)
- Password protected pages
- Preset styles for your site
- Full support for custom Javascript
- General optimisation and bug-fixing.
Our goal is to create smarter tools and interfaces for content and asset management in general. We are trying to help build
a more intelligent, more connected and, most importantly, easier to use web.
Bootstrapped and independent
At Salon.io we try and do things differently, we don't have any investors or external backers. We have been developing the platform on our own and continue to do so - this means that we can focus on pleasing our customers rather than our stockholders. It also means we can make changes quickly and provide an ad-free platform where we focus on user experience.
