Women
Walking
Thinking, talking
Raising their voices and letting them fall again
As waves. They come towards you
One great wave
Where do they come from?
What is it that they carry on their tongues?
Rivers of words
Thoughts emerge from the creation of ourselves
Born from the construction – deconstruction of our bodies
Like a magic cube, the women´s faces
The Walkportrait performance formulates a walk ritual in order to achieve an interpretation of the model of the woman who is caught in a space of doctrines, far away of her real existence in the world. A metaphorical portrait of all these women that walk the path of moving away from their land, crossing deserts, roads, borders, walls, claiming themselves, uncovering their bodies from ther colonization, in order to survive. The Action:
Four women walk a distance of 100 meters in an urban space. This walk lasts exactly 1 hour. In other words, the time of walking is slowed and intensified. The performative vocabulary uses a variety of bodily gestures, movements, enunciations, rare phonetics, stylized repetition of acts; it thus approaches, anthropologically, the liminal space of the status “woman”. The ”Walk” serves the function of the Chorus, which comes from that past, our present and the future to warn us.
Walk together spinning, building a path
Walk remembering who we are and what we are looking for
Walk - remember - think - wish
Walk,
Shout in the streets
Walk in protest, say their names, tell their stories.
We do not forget!
Walk as an act of resistance
