What is the duty of the artist today? Building awareness? Creating something nice for your walls at home? Be an insta-famous person, where no real art making is even required? Or is being digitally social, already enough, or further thought, is THAT the art itself? What is this world about nowadays?

An Dashkevych can not easily be reduced to her pieces of artworks; there even aren't that many. There are sketches, mostly from the vivid nightlife of Berlin club sub-cultur, there are acrylic paintings, done in Dubai and Goa, where An does regularly artist-in-residence times and there are those early works from Ukraine, while An was trying to define herself, in a world, that slowly lost bounderies, its frameworks and its limitations. It was a short attemt towards freedom. The "C-files", the "coronic" spring of 2020 puts it all into a new, wider state of ... well, whatever it's gonna be. But clearly we are not heading towards wider freedom from now. But that's another story.

An had many admirer from the beginning of her career onwards, from the U.S., from Asia, from Europe.. mixed media, as her works are pretty often as well. - She moved easily between cultures, between sceneries and between egos and characters. - In 2014 An came to Berlin, where she made her permanent base three years later.
In 2020 she expanded to Cyprus, since Goa was no option for some while.
Speaking about An Dashkevych forces you to speak about art as a way of living. It's impossible to draw a separating line between actually doing a painting and living, just seen as a work of art.
You need to meet An, or alikes (as I have met in thr artist Aima Saint Hunon, for instance) to fully understand what it means to see life and ways of living as an artform itself.

Grewing up in the 90ies, in a small town in the west of Ukraine, perspectives were limited, or at least it was told like that. An grew up with the saying, that finding a halfway acceptable husband could be the highest goal for a girl from where she came from.
An was never about to believe in that. Todays' world is full of coaching programms where they teach you, how to build trust in life and let life and your pure thoughts and will carry you. An simply was and is that way. Ever since. It doesn't require a coaching, it doesn't even require a deeper thought that way; it is rather and simple the only way An exists anyway. For me she is an Ukrainian version of a Holly Golighty. She just floats through her days; she paints or she doesn't. She smokes and she dreams, or.. no, she doesn't dream, well,.. or if she dreams, then she dreams all the time, it's like with her art, no separation between life and art, between just being there or creating an actutal piece. Life is art. Art is life. Is it? Does it matter? It's all your very own reality anyway. You have always the free will to think what you want. I personally think, life is just wonderful.
