TRASHMAS TREES
As series captured in Berlin in Jan/Feb2020
Thousands of Christmas Tree corpses tossed out on the streets like stranded plant-based whales. They don't belong here - rootless, in the middle of the big city traffic jungle-
It is another illustrative chapter of the current demented state of our collective cultural psyche - raping the natural resources at our will for our pleasure and commodity.
We grow millions of trees in enormous mono cultures drowned in pesticides ready to sell for this old Christian (actually pre-christian/ pagan) ritual of adorning a green tree in the middle of winter in our home as the sign of hope . We make it the center piece of our pretentious worhip, it stands at the jewel of our festive Christmas living room decor.
A week later, they have fallen from grace, having completed their seasonal service, useless now for us. Dumped out in the streets. Sure, they tell us, it's ok- the BSR ( municipal garbage company) is taking care of it, burning them in their biogas plants to make energy.
End of February, hundreds of needled corpses still lie in the streets, pitiful memorials of the "ex and hop" mentality of a society disconnected from the natural cycles of life .
