This was the bagpipe song being played outside the house at the time my great-grandmother was giving birth to my grandmother. It is also how she can locate the time and date of her birth.
Because the journey to the town took a full day and delay in registering the baby would be met with a fine, her official birthday is in October - two months later.
The memory of the song, passed down by her mother, lets her know she was born at 6AM on the day of Our Lady of the Assumption, 15th August 1931.
The score, the rhythm of a birth?
