The „One day only“-Rule
"So - since you studied music, film, are writing Books and work as a photographer - what is your main profession?" is a question I get asked frequently.
The answer is: It's storytelling.
Storytelling is where all my professions meet.
When I was six and I told my father that I wanted to become a director, just like him, he said one thing that has been guiding me through life ever since: If you want to direct, and that means to know what the story you want to tell should sound, look, even taste like - you need to learn and understand all crafts that supply it.
For every profession - In order to understand the "composition" on a deeper level, understanding each "Instrument" is essential.
So when I started making movies in 2011 my aim was to learn and understand the crafts behind it as a part of my thinking process.
I even sat myself a goal of one day only for the shootings - to take it to the extreme and prove wrong all those who, in filmschool taught us that without Money, the right this, the right that, a permission signed etc - nothing would be possible.
I shot several short films - until my work was found online by my first client who then offered me to shoot my first paid commercial.
The result was "the girl". A short that resulted in shooting the next short-film-like-Advertisment, "If you go away".
Both shot in one day.
NO permissions, NO Budget. No one but me and the actors.
Many things have changed since, but having been a "one day rebel without a crew" changed and twisted my view on many things and I have a sentimental connection to both of these films.
