xylella fastidiosa
Destructive bacterium destroying landscapes and woodland - Mallorca
Destructive politicians destroying people and countries - United Kingdom
"Veil - xylella fastidiosa"
is a further evolvement of working with polaroids - rescanned and eliminating the existing white frames to let the images free themselves from any constrains. The total abstractions is inspired by a bacterium called "xylella fastidiosa", which is currently destroying fast amounts of trees on the island of Mallorca and will result in the mandatory deforestation of protected woodlands on the island.
On the flip side of the destruction of the landscapes I am also drawing a parallel to the destruction and deconstruction of countries and societies through politicians. As I am still a European resident in the UK, I find it quite difficult to put in words what is happening there right now. A slow deterioration, which is creeping almost invisible like the "xylella fastidiosa, within the society of people and destroying its own structure; a crumbling society, like the crumbling stumps of the destroyed woodlands and landscapes. Impressions and feeling which seem to be difficult to put into words. Abstraction and images can sometimes say and express more than words.
