This project developed out of the fact being stuck indoors due to Covid-19 lockdowns.This are old photos, portraits of people I do not have any personal connection to. They are from different times in the past.I combined them with those sculptural objects I started making back in 2019 to visualise the destructive plant virus Xylella Fastidiosa at the time. Those 'objects' reminded me of the masks we have to wear at the moment and for the foreseeable future. In combination with the photos they purely serve as a curtain/protection from ..... (corona?), but at the same time may appear as a threat, because it is something unknown.
The semi-transparent appearance of the sculptural objects, which I sometimes call 'cloud', allow the viewer to have a glimpse of what is behind to raise curiosity and engage in a thought process. It's not the association of the first level we can see all around. We need to look beyond of what we see, hear and feel. I made this project very personal through incorporating my handmade objects. It gives the people on the image an identity
